Great Fishing This Spring

Fishing has been fantastic this spring, even though we are having a short spell of cool, wet weather. Our guest have not let that deter them from getting out on the water. Things are expected to heat up again starting this Friday. This year we have added an adult sized and a youth sized paddle board, as well as one more single kayak, for guests to enjoy.

An early start to the season

I forgot to post that we opened April 24th, much earlier than usual, but the weather has been amazing and the ice was off early. Guests have already been enjoying boating and fishing, and catching plenty!  The Loons have returned and are busy nesting, and most of our usual bird species are also around: red winged and yellow headed blackbirds, swallows, bald eagles, osprey, chickadees,  and the flickers who are busy punching holes in our buildings!  The free range cattle and horses are loving the early grasses, but you have to be on the look out for them on the highway.

Spring Came Early

The unusually warm weather this April, plus the low snowfall over the winter, has led to a very early ice melt on the lake. Our bay is open up to the island already. Other parts of the lake are experiencing the same, with still the bulk of the ice sitting in the middle, away from the streams and shallows. The blackbirds,  Eagles and ducks are back, so it shouldn't be long before we see our Loons. Their arrival is always a sure sign that Spring is here.  No swallows yet, but they can't be far behind.
