Guests fish from shore, docks, or small boats, following the rhythm of the weather and the seasons rather than tight schedules.

The lake is known for its rainbow trout, with fishing best from spring through fall. Early mornings and calm evenings are often the most rewarding, especially for those who enjoy taking their time.

The lake

Nimpo Lake sits at the top of the Dean River system on the Chilcotin Plateau. It is a long, cold lake that stays productive through the open-water season. Wild rainbow trout are the main draw — known for being strong fish in good condition. They can be caught throughout the season, with spring and fall often offering the most active fishing.

Methods that work

Trolling is the approach most guests start with. Running a small spoon, spinner or plug along the drop-offs and points covers water well while you learn the lake. Once you find fish, anchoring and casting or fly fishing from a boat or canoe often works better. Standard lake fly patterns produce here: leeches, woolly buggers, and damsel or dragonfly nymphs. On calm evenings, fish move into the shallows and can be taken from shore or the dock.

Facilities on site

The resort has a private boat launch and docking slips, a fish cleaning station, and fibre-optic Wi-Fi that reaches the dock. All are included for registered guests at no extra cost. There are no motorboat rentals on site — guests who want to cover the deeper water should bring their own boat and motor. Canoes and kayaks are available free of charge for near-shore use.

Highlights

There is no lifeguard.
