The Mary Cabin

Mary Cabin exterior at Nimpo Lake Resort

Mary Cabin is a spacious lakefront cabin of around 2,000 sq ft, named in honour of Mary Kirner, the founder of Nimpo Lake Resort.

Set in a private corner overlooking the beach, the cabin features a whole wall of windows facing Nimpo Lake, offering uninterrupted views of water and sky. From morning light to late-evening colours, the lake is always in front of you.

Inside, the space is simple, comfortable and generous, designed for guests who value light, quiet and a close connection to the lake. Mary Cabin is exceptionally well-suited for couples who like room to breathe or small families spending unhurried time on the Chilcotin Plateau.

Around the cabin

The cabin is steps from the dock and beach, where you can launch a canoe or kayak any time you like — both are included in your stay. Nimpo Lake’s resident loons are vocal through May and June, and osprey and bald eagles are a regular sight overhead. In the evenings, the lake often goes flat and reflective just before sunset.

Fishing is good directly in front of the cabin: rainbow trout are active in the shallows early morning and again at dusk. Bring your own rod, or pick up a BC fishing licence at the resort before you head out.

Year-round access

Mary Cabin is one of two cabins open through winter. The baseboard heating keeps the cabin comfortable in cold weather, and the wood stove adds warmth on slower evenings. Winter stays are notably quiet — very few guests, no boat traffic on the lake, and the kind of stillness that is hard to find anywhere else in BC.

Snow can arrive from October onward. Highway 20 is maintained year-round but can be icy in winter — check road conditions before you drive.
